Alex Hales Dropped From England’s World Cup Squad After Drugs Ban

Alex Hales has dug himself a hole as he was caught using recreational drugs a few days back.

While the England Cricket Board (ECB) had earlier imposed a 21-day ban on the opener, his name has now been removed from the preliminary squad for the World Cup.

The development comes as a huge shock for not just Alex Hales but cricket fans as he is one of the most fluent opening batsmen around in world cricket.

The cricket will also not play any international cricket before the World Cup. He was a part of England’s squad for Ireland T20I as well as for Pakistan series.

ECB earlier released an official statement about the development.

Consideration was given to creating the right environment within the team and ensuring that there are no unnecessary distractions and that the team is in the best position to succeed going into this crucial period.

The England selectors and Managing Director of ECB, Ashely Giles took the decision to bar the right-hander from playing at the mega event.

Giles, however, added that this is not the end of the international career for Hales.

We have thought long and hard about this decision. We have worked hard to create the right environment around the England team and need to consider what is in the best interests of the team, to ensure they are free from any distractions and able to focus on being successful on the pitch.

His replacement for Pakistan series and the World Cup will be announced later.
