Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has expressed his desire to retire from one-day international cricket on a high, by lifting the World Cup 2019 trophy.
In an interview with local media outlet, Malik claimed that he has to win the upcoming World Cup to complete his trophy cabinet.
I have won the World T20 and the Champions Trophy but the only missing piece from my trophy cabinet is the World Cup. My life would be complete if I’m successful in winning it.
Malik claimed that he is ready to play the role of an experienced player on and off the pitch, to help the youngsters.
I want make my last World Cup memorable not just by performing well, but also helping the youngsters with my experience and ensuring that the atmosphere of dressing room remains cordial.
The format of the upcoming World Cup is the same as the one used back when Pakistan lifted the World Cup for the first and last time in 1992.
The format of the tournament is such that it gives every team an equal opportunity but only the consistent sides will put themselves in a good position to win the event.
Speaking about the importance and significance of making a good start, Malik said:
Starting the tournament well and winning the earlier games will be key for any side, which is why it is important to play well as a unit and put in the hard yards right from the outset.
Pakistan will start their World Cup campaign against West Indies on 31st May at Trent Bridge.
