Pakistan Ranked 2nd in Countries Suffering Economic Losses Due to Climate Change

Germanwatch has ranked Pakistan second among the countries suffering losses due to serious global climate change impacts. Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam, said this on Thursday while addressing a public gathering of Climate Change Caucus. The session was also attended and headed by Senator Sherry Rehman.

He said the issue of climate change has become politically important citing examples from the recent past.

The melting of Shisper Glacier is a live incident where a kilometer-long glacier with three-kilometer thickness is surging from a mountain top.

Assistant to PM revealed that the glacier rushed forward three kilometers in six months which was a ‘horrible spectacle’ as a large population is sitting in the middle of its course.

He lauded the measures taken by the National Disaster Management Authority and district government and said:

This not what Pakistan dreamt of. We are bearing the brunt of the problems made by others it’s not because of our indigenous efforts.

Senator Sherry Rehman, the Chairperson Climate Caucus also spoke on the occasion. She appreciated the parliament for treating climate change as an emergency issue as the country is facing its repercussions in every single season.
