The Excise and Taxation Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has revealed that multiple public universities of Peshawar have been evading token tax for 14 years.
The taxation department has said that the University of Agriculture, the University of Peshawar, the Engineering University and the Khyber Medical College have been delaying the payment millions of Rupees of token tax.
Token tax is the tax paid on cars every year.
The Excise Department said these universities owe them Rs. 38.1 million in token tax for 186 cars. Apparently, they haven’t paid these taxes since 2005.
According to the Excise Department, the University of Agriculture is a defaulter of Rs. 13.7 million on sixty cars; the University of Peshawar owes Rs. 6.4 million for 52 vehicles.
Similarly, Engineering University is due to Rs. 9.4 million taxes on 50 cars, while the Khyber Medical College has also been evading tax worth Rs. 5.1 million on 50 vehicles.
The taxation department said they had sent multiple notices to these varsities to no avail. It urged these universities to clear dues at the earliest or face legal action.
