Meizu Launches 16XS With Decent Specs at a Low Price

Meizu 16Xs, a watered-down variant of Meizu 16X, has been officially unveiled in China. This new mid-ranger was leaked several times in the past few weeks, presumably by Meizu itself to raise hype.

It comes with a triple sensor rear camera, notch-less display, chic design, and a large 4000 mAh battery. It is one of the lightest smartphones on the market and is the first Meizu phone with a triple sensor rear camera.

Design and Display

Meizu 16XS Atlantis Blue

Meizu 16XS has the same design path as its predecessors. The rear side is similar to what we saw in Meizu 16S however, instead of dual sensor camera there’s a vertically arranged triple sensor camera.

The phone features symmetric design with the notch-less display. Meizu is one of the companies that has defied the notch trend and stuck to the traditional 18:9 design.

Meizu 16XS Coral Orange

The front camera is housed on the thin top bezel. The “bezel-less” display comes with a large screen to body ratio. It is available in four colors: Jade White, Black, Coral Orange, and Atlantis Blue.

Display wise, the phone features a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and 18.6:9 aspect ratio. The screen has a 90.29 percent screen to body ratio with a German VDE certified hardware level blue light filter.

Following the latest trends, the fingerprint scanner is housed inside the screen. The in-screen fingerprint scanner is Meizu’s patented mTouch that unlocks in only 0.2 seconds. The fingerprint sensor also supports fingerprint enabled WeChat and Alipay payments.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, we have Snapdragon 675 SoC paired with 6 GB RAM accompanied by 64 or 128 gigs of built-in memory.

Moving to the software, Meizu 16Xs comes with Meizu’s updated OneMind AI 3.0 that enables the phone to run 20 applications in the background without lagging and can let you install as much as 669 applications without worrying about any sort of lag. It is also equipped with a HyperGaming mode that improves framerates and performance while gaming.

The phone runs on Flyme 27.3 flavored Android 9.0 Pie.

Cameras

The highlight of the whole package is the triple sensor rear camera which is a first for the company. The rear camera features a 48 MP Samsung GM1 MOD main sensor followed by a 5 MP secondary sensor and an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor with 118.8 degrees field of view.

At the front, there’s a tiny 16 MP snapper for selfies. The selfie camera comes with a basic beauty mode, portrait mode, and HDR+ selfies.

Battery and Pricing

Last but not least is the large 4000 mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.

The phone is up for pre-booking with the basic variant (6GB/64GB) priced at $246 and the maxed-out variant (6GB/128GB) priced at $290.
