Moto Z4 Launched With a Bigger Battery and In-Display Fingerprint Reader

After several rounds of leaks and rumors, Lenovo has finally announced the Moto Z4. It is a direct successor of last year’s Moto Z3 and it retains all the Moto Mods we’re already familiar with, but with thinner bezels on the display. It is going to be the company’s first phone in the Z lineup for 2019.

Design and Display

The overall look of the phone is similar to its predecessor, except the bezels have been trimmed, giving it a screen to body ratio of 84.8%. The screen is 6.4 inches big and this time you get an OLED panel with the same Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The back is almost identical. There are pins dotting the back of the phone for Moto Mods and the camera module looks the same except for the fact that the dual camera setup has been replaced with a single primary snapper.

A new addition to the Moto Z-series phones is the in-display fingerprint reader. Moto Z3 had a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader instead.

Internals and Storage

Moto Z4 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 675 chipset, which isn’t flagship level but it’s pretty close. Compared to the Moto Z3 the RAM capacity has gone down a bit, but nothing too significant. You now have 4GB RAM with storage space of 128 GB.

You get Android Pie straight out of the box with no custom skins at all, in typical Moto fashion.

Camera

The single primary shooter at the back is 48MP with an f/1.7 aperture. It is capable of FHD and 4K video recording. Motorola is also bringing Night Mode from the Moto One Vision alongside some AI enhancements.

The front cam, meanwhile, is 25MP and is able to record 1080p videos at 30FPS.

Battery and Pricing

Battery capacity has always been a problem with Moto phones, and fortunately enough there was an upgrade in this department for the Moto Z4. The 3600 mAh cell (3000 mAh in Z3) can be topped up via the 15w TurboPower charger included in the box.

The Moto Z4 is set to go on sale on June 6 for $499.
