Corruption Worth Millions Unearthed in Sindh Education Department

Sindh Anti-Corruption Department has swung into action on reports of financial discrepancies in the education department of the province.

A squad of the anti-corruption establishment Sindh raided District Accounts Office and District Education Office for Primary and Secondary in Jacobabad and confiscated the record on Monday.

The raid was conducted on a tip-off that millions of rupees have been misused and misplaced in the name of bogus retirements and payments.

According to the reports, the Anti-Corruption team had information that both district offices had acted in connivance to make technical changes in System Application and Products (SAP) and made transactions worth several million rupees.

Reports suggest that officials in the education department showed fake retirements of the teachers in SAP and got the approval of millions of rupees in retirement payments from the district accounts office.

A letter written to the chairman of Sindh Anti-Corruption Department revealed that 13 cases have been registered in the Circle Office Anti-Corruption Jacobabad while 15 are still pending due incomplete documents.

The team has informed the chairman that despite several attempts, they have not received any response to their questions from the District Accounts Office which indicates that the department is using delaying tactics to misplace the record.

The report stated that they have demanded the record of salary bills from 2007 to 2012, GP funds from 2015 to 2019 and pension record for this duration, but have not received any cooperation.

They have also written to the provincial finance ministry to issue directives for the accounts department so that the cases can be swiftly completed.

According to sources, political bigwigs from Jacobabad district are using their influence to brush off this case under the carpet. But, authorities are determined to take it to a logical conclusion. It is said that the money acquired through this corruption has been laundered to the Gulf countries.
