Govt Starts Collecting Taxes on 569 Imported Items

The government has imposed new taxes on 569 different imported items. You’ll have to pay additional regulatory duties on the import of certain items including vehicles.

A few days ago, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued a notification for increased customs duty and levy of regulatory duties on 569 types of imported items. The taxes are in effect from July 1, 2019. The new tax regime will be applicable until June 30, 2020.

The regulatory duty (RD) imposed on these items ranges from 5% all the way up to 90% on some of the imported products.

List of Affected Items

Here’s a breakdown of taxes on each of these items:

Food Items

Household Items

Wall coverings and Window Transparency Papers 30 percent
Energy-Saving Lamps 2 percent
Household and Toilet Articles other than Porcelain or China 20 percent
Apparel and Clothing Accessories 10 percent

  • Many of the products listed are not even manufactured in Pakistan. What is the government trying to achieve by taxing them? It would have made sense if Gov. taxed only those imported products which are already made in Pakistan.
