Pakistan’s hopes for a yet another semifinal might just be over with England’s win over New Zealand today. Had the English surrendered today, then Pakistan only had to beat Bangladesh to move further in the competition.
However, things are much more complicated now.
Given if Pakistan beat Bangladesh, they will be on level points with New Zealand. Out of the two – whoever has the better Net Run-Rate (NRR) will become the 4th semifinalist.
Pakistan will have to bat first in order to have any chance of qualification. If Bangladesh wins the toss and opts to bat first, then Pakistan will be knocked out straight away.
However, if Pakistan bat first then here is what needs to happen:
