FIA Official Arrested at Islamabad Airport for Smuggling Mobile Phones

An official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been arrested at the Islamabad International Airport for his involvement in smuggling.

An Airport Security Force (ASF) official intercepted him while he was coming out of the airport and recovered more than 60 smartphones from his bag.

“The official was involved in smuggling 60 cell phones”, a statement from the ASF authorities said.

The official had been on ASF’s watch list for suspicious activities for over a month. On Monday, he was caught red-handed.

He identified two more officials that were involved with the smuggling who were suspended by Director General FIA Basheer Memon. The suspended FIA officers were identified as sub-inspector Javed Iqbal, sub-inspector Akhtar Iqbal, and Constable Waqas Bhatti.

DG FIA asked immigration director Nasir Mahmood Satti to investigate the matter and submit a report at the earliest.

Later, a statement from the DG Bashir Memon said that there was no place in FIA for people involved in illegal activities. He vowed to take strict action against the suspended officials if found guilty.

Smuggling Drugs

In June this year, ASF arrested two FIA officials in connection with drug smuggling at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.

According to ASF, around Rs. 150,000 were recovered from one of the two officials during the arrest.

The value of the confiscated drugs was estimated to be millions of rupees in the international market.
