Local Airports Will be Cleared for US Airlines: Aviation Minister

Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan has announced that local airports will be cleared for the US airlines soon. This development comes after a team from the US visited Pakistan to review the security arrangements at the airports.

The aviation minister said this at a press briefing at the Parliament House. A US team recently visited the new Islamabad International Airport to review the security arrangements made by the authorities.

The minister said that Pakistan International Airline (PIA) is facing a shortage of aircraft. PIA will induct five aircraft every year and an additional Boeing 777, he said. An Airbus A320 has already been inducted into the fleet in June.

Speaking about wrapping baggage in plastic sheets, he said that he agrees with the rule as it is mandatory in the world. However, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had issued the notification on its own. An inquiry has been initiated against the official who issued the notification, said the minister.
