Rockstar Releases its Own Launcher Alongside a Free Game

In the early days of PC gaming, there weren’t that many game launchers around. Steam was pretty much the biggest and most relevant one at the time.

Now, there’s the Epic Launcher, Battle.net, Origin, etc.. Even GoG is working on one right now as nearly every major game studio/website wants a piece of that pie.

Rockstar Games is the latest to join the fray, releasing its own game launcher for PC. They’re also offering Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for free with the platform’s debut.

The launcher will let you buy and play all of Rockstar’s PC games in one place, similar to Epic Games Launcher and Blizzard’s Battle.net. It is pretty barebones right now, but it does the job.

Available Features

Currently, Rockstar Games Launcher supports cloud saving for supporting titles, keeping your library up to date while also letting you follow the latest Rockstar titles directly from the launcher.

The titles that are currently on sale include Manhunt, Midnight Club and some older top-down GTA titles. As mentioned before, you also get a free copy of GTA San Andreas for a limited time after downloading the launcher.

Clunky Steam Integration

After you install the launcher, it will automatically add all of your Rockstar titles into the library. If you own the game on Steam, you will have to click “Play on Steam” and it will launch Steam within the launcher. Hopefully, this will be fixed in a later patch.

Some fans are speculating that this launch is further proof that Red Dead Redemption 2 will eventually make it to PC. Rockstar hasn’t officially announced anything so don’t get your hopes up.

You can download the launcher by following this link. Visit Rockstar’s support forums for more details.

  • So people would be happy to play rockstar games on their launcher rather than steam? Hmm.

  • Everyone wants Piece of the pie… I think down the line Rockstar would want to release their own Game streaming service, so they are laying the groundwork for that
