Prime Minister Imran Khan Inaugurates New Section of Hazara Motorway

Prime Minister Imran Khan has inaugurated the Havelian-Thakot section of Hazara Motorway.

While addressing the inaugural ceremony, PM Khan said that the project is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which will prove to be a game-changer for the country.

He maintained that along with infrastructural projects, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government is equally spending on human development projects. Khan revealed that the government has slashed import duties on medical equipment to encourage foreign investors to build hospitals in Pakistan.

The premier said that his government’s initiative, ‘Insaf Health Card,’ is one of the most comprehensive health plans for the deprived class of the country.

The Insaf Card we have given will help the poorest. We are working on the hospitals, we are coming towards education and then we will work on agriculture and industry sectors.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Communication Minister Murad Saeed and his team for the timely completion of and recoveries of billions of rupees in several motorway projects.

PM Khan also had choice words for the opposition, reiterating his call for ‘No bailout for corrupt people.’

Earlier, Murad Saeed also addressed the gathering and said that the 118.32 kilometers long Havelian-Thakot CPEC project was scheduled to be completed in 2017. It was, however, delayed after the PML-N government ordered excessive changes in the original design, which escalated the cost.

He said that inordinate changes were also made in Hakala-Dera Ismail Khan, Sukkur-Multan, and Lahore Abdul Hakeem motorway sections.

On a separate occasion, Murad said that an internal inquiry into the Havelian-Thakot project had led to recoveries of Rs. 10.8 billion.
