Breaking: Faf du Plessis Quits South African Captaincy Ahead of the World T20

Faf du Plessis has stepped down from the captaincy of the South African cricket team.

The middle-order batsman has said that he will no longer captain the Proteas in Tests and T20Is. The 35-year-old has made his decision after taking his time off from the game.

du Plessis wasn’t available for the ODI and T20I series against England. Quinton de Kock led the team in the ODI series which resulted in a 1-1 draw as well in the T20I series which the hosts lost by 2-1.

The last few weeks of rest away from the game have given me a lot of perspective on the great privilege and honour I have had in representing and leading my country in the three formats of this wonderful game.

“It has been a rewarding, sometimes tough and other times a lonely road, but I would not replace the experience for anything, because it has made me the man that I am proud to be today”, he said on his decision.
