Karachi Kings (201/4) beat Peshawar Zalmi (191/7) by 10 runs
Man of the Match: Babar Azam (KK)

It was always going to be tough for Peshawar Zalmi as they were given a target of 202 to chase in their 20 overs. There have been only three successful run chases of over 200 in the history of PSL.
 1st Innings

Peshawar Zalmi opted to field first after winning the toss in today’s first match. It was Sharjeel Khan’s comeback match and he looked in good touch to start the proceedings for Karachi Kings.

After contributions from Sharjeel and Cameron Delport, Babar Azam and Imad Wasim smashed the bowlers all around the park to set up Kings for a huge total.

Babar smacked an impressive 78 runs from 56 balls whereas Imad also scored a blistering half-century after coming into bat at number 4. Just when 200 looked impossible, Iftikhar Ahmed hit two sixes and a four on the last three balls of the match to make it possible.

Hasan Ali picked up two wickets however, he was very expensive, conceding 52 runs in his 4 overs. Karachi Kings posted 201/4 in their 20 overs.

2nd Innings

Peshawar Zalmi couldn’t get off to a quick start as their overseas batting sensation, Tom Banton, got out without doing much damage. Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik also failed to get quick runs, however, Kamran Akmal kept his team in the hunt with a 26-ball-43.

English batsman, Liam Livingstone, hit some big sixes in his innings. His partnership with Darren Sammy brought the game close as they needed 30 from 12 balls. With 6 balls to go, Peshawar needed 16 to win with two pinch hitters on the crease in the form of Sammy and Livingstone.

Umaid Asif got to bowl the last over even though Imad had two overs left. He held his nerve, giving away only 5 runs while taking two wickets off the last two balls. Karachi won the match after a close contest by 10 runs to register their first win.

After a close contest on an opening day, it’s a double-header today with Karachi Kings taking on Peshawar Zalmi at National Stadium Karachi in the first match. The second match is scheduled in Lahore between the home side, Lahore Qalandars, and Multan Sultans.
