Vivo Launches Affordable iQOO 3 Gaming Phone With 5G & “Monster Mode”

Vivo’s Gaming sub-brand just launched its first 5G gaming smartphone, the ‘iQOO 3 5G’ with some impressive specifications. The company wanted it to be India’s first 5G smartphone; however, the Realme X50 Pro launched a day earlier took that spot. The iQOO 3, on the other hand, does get credit for a few other firsts.

Design and Display

Design-wise, the smartphone does not look like a gaming phone at all. If we look at ASUS ROG 2, the Vivo iQOO 3 5G looks pretty boring. It doesn’t have the typical gaming smartphone look. However, this might be a good thing for many who want good specifications but don’t want a smartphone with obnoxious features. It is available in Volcano Orange, Tornado Black, and Quantum Silver colors.

At the back, the smartphone features a quad-sensor camera stacked vertically in a rectangular housing.

The Vivo iQOO 3 5G is built around a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The selfie camera sits in a punch-hole on the top right corner.

The display is dubbed as “Polar View Display” by the company as it can reach up to 1200nits brightness in some cases and supports HDR10+ content playback. The only downside here is the regular 60Hz refresh rate, which might be a bummer for many, Vivo has added a 180Hz touch sampling rate to minimize input lag.

Internals and Storage

The Vivo iQOO 3 5G comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset at the helm topped with 8 GB or 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The smartphone sports two shoulder buttons dubbed as the Monster Touch buttons and also comes with 4D game vibrations to simulate recoils. The monster keys allow users to activate Monster Mode that runs the chipset at 100%. This will minimize the lag but will drain the battery fast.

On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 10 topped with iQOO UI 1.0 that comes with a number of tweaks for gamers. There is an Ultra Game Mode that allows players to block notifications and calls to minimize distractions.

Cameras

The smartphone does not disappoint in the camera section either. It is equipped with a quad-sensor rear camera featuring a 48 MP f/1.8 Sony IMX582 main sensor accompanied by a 13 MP f/2.46 telephoto lens, 13 MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP depth sensor. On the front, it comes with a 16 MP single sensor for selfies.

Battery and Pricing

The Vivo iQOO 3 5G is powered by a 4400 mAh battery that is backed by 55W Super FlashCharge capabilities, which, according to the company, can top up half of the battery is 15 minutes.

The smartphone will go on sale in three variants with the following prices:

  • 8GB/128GB ~$515
  • 256GB ~$555
  • 12GB/256GB ~625
