Brand New Kia Sportage Catches Fire in Pakistan [Video]

A video has gone viral showing a brand-new Kia Sportage that caught fire on Multan Road, Lahore.

There have been other instances of cars catching fire but they are due to car accidents, negligence of the owners or after-market mods gone awry. In this particular case, the car was brand new and according to the information available, barely a month old.

Kia Worldwide

Since 2015, Kia has recalled 618,000 vehicles due to production debris that can restrict oil flow to connecting rod bearings. This can lead to bearing in 2L and 2.4L four-cylinder engines getting worn down and catching fire.

As per the official statement by Kia, there might be damage to the high-pressure fuel pipe that causes the fuel to leak and hit the engine leading to a fire. According to agency filings, over 2,985,010 cars in the USA could be impacted by this. After the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigated this, both Hyundai and Kia reached a $750 million settlement with the authorities.

Pakistan

We reached out to Kia Pakistan for a comment and they have informed us that they are looking into the matter which will be investigated thoroughly and they will be sharing their findings once it is concluded.

While there could be any number of reasons for the fire, it is too early to assume that the cause was due to manufacturer’s fault.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

  • The car had clear frontal damage , I think Vehicle ran into metal rods which pierced into engine . You can see front grill bent and damaged.

  • Owner must have installed those freaking HIDs to show off and blind other people
Finally what goes around comes around, take that owner

    • I have heard this is the real reason, owner had installed HID’s and wires had cut on them which indicates external installations done by the owner

      • Bro all LEDs are not HIDs, just a reminder that HIDs are the ones people install to blind everyone and they are mostly illegal

  • With over 8000KM in my kia Sportage 2020 across half the country along with my friends who were 2019 Fortuner was an amazing driving experience. I put Fortuner to shame by just a Sligh gesture on the peddle both on tarmac and gravel. Anyhow the only times in my 25 years of maintaining cars the two times I managed to put the car on fire is 1- power amp 2- after
    market head lamps
    Cheers

  • In the motorisation drive Kia was among the leading contenders. Its shocking, un-believable. Came with a bang in Pakistan to fill the gap of SUV for long haul transportation with the process of Digitisation Pakistan in transportation. This shick wave to change opinion for our transportation mode should be Rail or Road.
Kia should establish local production for the SUV on EV’s, for long haul transportation for companies, ambulance, funeral vans etc., etc. and should essentially have Solar PV film on all roof, doors, sidewalls etc., for charging during day time for night journey for the solar PV batteries.
