NADRA Stops Renewing ID Cards

In the wake of an unannounced national emergency over the coronavirus outbreak, the National Database and Regulation Authority (NADRA) has stopped working across the country.

The decision was taken to avoid large gatherings of people outside its offices all over Pakistan. As per a report, around 50,000 people visit NADRA offices daily for the renewal of their ID cards. If the services are not halted, they could amplify the local transmission of the virus.

The latest development means that there will be no issuance of identity cards nor renewal until 5th April. Don’t worry, the authority has come up with a solution.

NADRA has decided that it will increase the validity of all the CNICs that expired after 1st September 2019 or are due to expire by 30th June 2020, till 1st July 2020.

The operations will resume as soon as the situation gets better, NADRA said in its notification, adding that it could announce another extension if the condition prevails.

Currently, Sindh is the only province to shut down all public offices and institutes. Punjab, KPK, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan haven’t done it yet.

We’ll keep you posted on all major developments about the coronavirus situation.

  • they haven’t stopped all functionality just renewals. they are still helping with the virus transmission.
