President Dr. Arif Alvi chaired a meeting to discuss the bandwidth issues in the wake of Coronavirus Pandemic at the Aiwan-e-Sadr today.
The President was briefed on the issues faced by internet users, particularly students, due to pressure on existing internet infrastructure, as people had started working from home and students were getting online education due to the viral pandemic.
In order to facilitate the students and improve internet accessibility, the President directed the relevant quarters to take necessary measures to enhance internet connectivity, so that the students could continue their education uninterrupted. He also directed to improve internet coverage in areas that currently lacked internet facilities.
Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mehmood, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Digital Pakistan, Tania Aidrus, Secretary, Information Technology and Telecommunications, Shoaib Siddiqui, Chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Maj Gen (Rtd) Amir Azeem, and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Ahmed Mujtaba Memon attended the meeting.

Right of way issue has been pending in Pakistan for last 5 years if not more. First solve that then lament about lack of coverage. Right of way is known as easement here in USA and federal government has taken this very seriously and solve all issues.
We also have permanent tax act that don’t allow any taxes on internet. In Pakistan the charge is like 30 percent of taxes just on internet.
Government should admit the truth, they don’t want internet to thrive. Only now when their own children are crying they are realizing.
This should have been a priority from the start. The world is moving to 5G and we still do not have proper coverage
