Mohammad Abbas Loses Nottinghamshire’s County Contract

Pakistan’s premier seamer, Mohammad Abbas, will be traveling with the 29-man squad to England in a specially chartered flight on 28th June.

The pacer will primarily be a part of the Test team with Azhar Ali XI scheduled to play three matches on the tour. Pakistan will also play three T20Is as well with Babar Azam leading the side. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club have canceled Mohammad Abbas’s contract because he will be busy representing his country against England in August.

The county had signed the fast bowler for 9 red-ball matches and the tournament expected to start in August when he will be busy playing against England.

Abbas previously represented Leicestershire County Cricket Club in the last two seasons where he impressed everyone with his wicket-taking abilities. Talking about the contract, Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire’s Director of Cricket, said that they are not closing the doors for Abbas.

His ability, nous, and experience have made him a threatening proposition in English conditions, and whilst it’s impossible for him to link up with us this year, we’re certainly not closing the door on welcoming him to Trent Bridge in the future.

Last year, Imad Wasim also represented Nottinghamshire in the T20 Blast, and thanks to his impressive outing in the first season, he has been picked once again by the county for this season. If the tournament starts in September, the Welsh-born all-rounder will be available for the entirety of the tournament.
