OGDC Discovers Gas and Condensate in Kohat

The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has discovered gas and condensate at Togh Bala 01 Well, in Block No. 3371-10, which is located in District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to details, Togh Bala Well # 01 was spudded-in on June 27, 2020, and drilled down to 2172 meters in to Lockhart Formation. The open whole testing carried out against Lockhart Formation which flowed at the rate of 9.00 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) gas and 125 barrels per day condensate with head flowing pressure of 1690 Psi at 32/64″ choke size.

The Kohat Joint Venture comprises OGDC as the operator of the well with a 50% work interest followed by Mari Petroleum with 33.33% work interest and Saif Energy Limited with 16.67% work interest.

It is worth highlighting that this is the 2nd consecutive discovery in Kohat block. The discovery of Togh Bala Well # 01 is the result of aggressive exploration strategy adopted by Kohat JV and it will add to the hydrocarbon reserves base of OGDCL and the Country.

The Petroleum Division (PD) is also planning to auction twenty new Exploration & Production (E&P) blocks in September, aiming to step up oil and gas drilling activities in various areas of the country.

“As many as 40 new blocks have been identified, out of which 20 will be put up for auction in September through international tenders,” a senior official privy to petroleum sector developments told the state’s media agency

He said the country’s existing gas production stands at around 3.7 Billion Cubic Feet per Day (BCFD) compared to a demand of 6 BCFD, adding the gas reserves are depleting at the ratio of 9.5 percent per year.
