National Highway Authority (NHA) has reported that the Toll Tax Rate for Lahore Islamabad Motorway (M2) has increased by 10%. The revised rate for Lahore Islamabad Motorway (M2) toll tax shall be Rs. 830 for cars and Rs. 2770 for buses.
It was forecasted by the end of last year by various experts that the toll tax rates would rise significantly following the turn of the decade. In a session with the Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development, and Reforms, Chairman NHA Sikander Qayyum said that toll rates have previously been and shall be “increased proportionately in accordance with the terms of the contract and the average number of vehicles that use the motorway.”
As per media reports, the representatives of NHA brought to light that the organization requires around Rs. 92 billion every year for the maintenance and renovation of highways. This statement was made last year, hence the requirements are likely to rise, given the devaluation of the local currency and the rising wear-and-tear due to increasing traffic.
As the current situation stands, the toll tax rates for the Islamabad-Peshawar (M1) Motorway, which is another major route, stand at Rs. 240 for cars and SUVs, Rs. 400 for 12 passenger vans, Rs. 550 for minibusses, Rs. 790. for full-size buses, Rs. 1,230 for trucks and Rs. 1,270 for semi-trailer trucks, as per NHA’s official website.
As of now, the rates for all other routes remain unchanged as per the NHA website. However, after the announcement for M2’s new toll tax rates, it’s likely that other routes will follow soon.
Seriously? Rs 830 for a car? They should’ve increased tax for a bus but this much tax for a car is outraging. M2 motorway was already very expensive.
