In an unprecedented development, the Punjab government has decided to provide free medical care to laborers after retirement.
The decision has been taken by the provincial Labor Department in a meeting presided over by Minister for Labor and Human Resource Punjab, Ansar Majeed Khan. Secretary Labor Department, Amir Jan, Commissioner Punjab Employees Social Security Institution, Tanveer Iqbal also attended the meeting.

Secretary Labor Department apprised the meeting with the mechanism for giving medical facilities to the laborers after retirement across the province.
The labor minister ordered the department to take measures to protect the health of kiln workers and ensure the provision of clean drinking water to factory workers all over Punjab.
He also directed the labor secretary to ensure workers are paid the minimum wages sanctioned by the Punjab government.

The minister said that the provincial government has initiated several new projects for improving the lives of workers in the province.
In this regard, the provincial social security department has formulated a plan to accord healthcare facilities and minimum approved wages to the workers.
