Acer Unveils New Spin 3, 3X And 5 With 11th Gen Intel Chips

Soon after Lenovo released its newest Yoga laptops, the Taiwanese hardware maker Acer has also unveiled its latest Spin 3, Spin 5, and Swift 3x laptops. The main difference between the two lineups is that the Spin series are touch screen enabled convertibles, whereas the Swift 3x is only a laptop, but all of them have the latest 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake CPUs.

Acer Spin 3 and 5 Series

The Spin lineup gets its name from the 360-degree hinge that allows you to use the laptop/tablet in any orientation. The 13.5-inch screen has a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and support for touch as well as a dedicated stylus for drawing and graphic design. Instead of the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, the Spin 5 opts for a 3:2 ratio, while the Spin 3 has 16:10.

The Acer Spin 3 and 5 have 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake CPUs, but the difference is that the Spin 5 has an NVIDIA GeForce MX450 GPU installed instead of Intel Iris X graphics. There is up to 24GB DDR4 RAM on both laptops with up to 1TB NVMe SSDs and 2TB HDDs.

Just like the Swift 3X, the Spin 5 and 3 have Core i5 and i7 options, but the Spin 3 can go down to the Core i3 as well.

For connectivity, there are two USB Type-C ports with support for Thunderbolt 4 and two USB Type-A ports (one on either side of the device).

Battery life goes up to 15 hours on the Spin 5 and Acer is yet to reveal battery numbers for the Spin 3.

Spin 3 and 5 will become available in Q1, 2021 for $850 and $1000 respectively.

Acer Swift 3x

The Swift 3x has a slightly larger 14-inch 1080p IPS display, but it only goes 180 degrees backward unlike the Spin laptops. It covers 72% of the NTSC color gamut and offers an 84% screen-to-body ratio thanks to thin side bezels.

Internal specifications are mostly the same as the Spin series with 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake processors combined with Intel Iris Xe MAX discrete graphics, up to 24GB DDR4 RAM, and 1TB NVMe SSDs coupled with extra HDD storage. You can choose between the Intel Core i5-1135G7 or the more powerful Intel Core i7-1165G7.

Battery life goes up to 17.5 hours and has support for fast charging which can bring 4 hours of battery life with just 30 minutes of charging.

Connectivity options are the same as the Spin series.

The Acer Swift 3x will go for sale by the end of the year for $900.
