QeA Trophy Points Table: Southern Punjab Still at the Top With 55 Points

The third round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy came to a close yesterday evening with some fantastic cricket on display. One match ended in a draw, while the other two finished with results.

Northern defeated Sindh by 128 runs, despite a magnificent knock by middle-order batsman, Saud Shakeel, in the 4th innings.. Shakeel personified class and scored 174 in the run chase, but ultimately failed to get them over the line. Northern batsmen, Sarmad Bhatti and Hammad Azam, scored centuries in their second innings to set Sindh a target of 423. Northern captain, Nauman Ali, picked up five-wicket hauls in both innings and finished with match figures of 157/10.

In the second match, KP defeated Southern Punjab by 75 runs, handing them their first loss of the tournament. Mohammad Abbas of Southern Punjab picked up 6 wickets in the first innings, while Sajid Khan of KP picked up 6 wickets in the second innings.

Hussain Talat scored another century to become the highest scorer of the tournament. Mohammad Abbas took 4 wickets in the third innings, taking his tally of wickets to 10 in the match. KP bowled out Southern Punjab for 198 in the fourth innings to register their first win of the tournament.

The third match between Central Punjab and Balochistan ended in a draw on the final day. Central Punjab survived the last day thanks to a brilliant knock by the captain, Azhar Ali. Amad Butt of Balochistan took 6 wickets in the second innings. Balochistan failed to capitalize in the final innings on the fourth day despite a below-average batting display by Central Punjab. The match ended in a draw with Central Punjab requiring 44 runs with 3 wickets in hand.
