Huawei Reveals ‘World’s Most Efficient’ All-Electric Drive System for EVs

Huawei has recently been experimenting a lot with the idea of entering the automotive market. With its prowess, the Chinese tech giant, which is considered one of the best in the world for telecom equipment and smartphones, has branched out into various other areas, the latest of which is the automotive industry.

The tech-firm has reportedly revealed its first-ever all-electric drive system for electric vehicles (EV), known as the ‘DriveOne’. The name of the system is reportedly derived from the fact that it is an ‘all-in-one’ drive system and that it is the industry’s first hyper-converged power domain infrastructure.

Normally, all modern EVs such as the Tesla lineup, the Porsche Taycan, and a few others feature a skateboard chassis that is completely flat and integrates the transversely mounted drive systems at the front and rear. Each of these units houses an AC induction propulsion 3-Phase/4-Pole electric motor, and the rest of the technical components are integrated at other points within the vehicle.

The DriveOne includes seven mechanical and power components — a Micro Control Unit (MCU), a Motor, a Reducer, a DC Converter (DCDC), an On-board Charger (OBC), a Power Distribution Unit (PDU), and a Battery Control Unit (BCU).

Huawei emphasized greatly that the design system is intended to ensure simple development, adaptation, layout, and evolution.

The company also said that DriveOne is the industry’s first high-voltage all-in-one electric drive system that meets the 2C fast-charging facility and offers a 200-kilometer range within 10 minutes of charging. The system is reportedly more accurate and more power-efficient than any other previous system. Nonetheless, this claim would be better revealed in practice.
