Apple is Working on More Powerful CPUs/GPUs to Rival Nvidia And AMD

Apple unveiled the M1 chip last month, its own silicon meant to power MacBooks that would outperform its Intel-powered laptops. The company has no plans to stop here as a new report shows that Apple is working on developing new SoCs with up to 32 cores.

A new report from Bloomberg shows that Apple is developing SoCs with 20 core CPUs for 2021 that will be featured in MacBook Pros as well as entry-level and high-end iMacs. All of these chips will be Apple’s own silicon similar to the M1 chipset.

The company is expected to go for 8-core or 12-core CPUs in early 2021 and the 20 core CPUs will likely arrive during the second half of the year. The development will depend on Apple’s production line.

As for 2022, Apple will target its professional Mac Pro with a new chip with as many as 32 CPU cores. As for GPUs, Apple wants to create units with up to 16 and 32 cores and is even foreseeing GPUs with 64 and 128 cores in the future. According to the report, these GPUs would be several times faster than Nvidia and AMD’s offerings.

The company is expected to announce its next Apple silicon powered computers around Spring 2021.
