Samsung Galaxy S21 Will Have a Much Faster Fingerprint Sensor: Leak

One of the upgrades coming to the Samsung Galaxy S21 series is the fingerprint sensor. The in-display fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S21 trio will be much bigger and faster than before, revealed renowned tipster Ice Universe.

The light sensor behind the OLED panel will be a square and will have 8mm sides, making a total surface area of 64 sq. mm. The fingerprint sensor on the previous generation flagships measured at 4×9 mm with a total surface area of 36 sq. mm. This is a 77% improvement in size compared to the previous sensors.

The tipster also believes that this new sensor will be significantly faster than previous iterations. According to him, the unlocking speed will be doubled to a point you will only need to tap it instead of pressing it.

Samsung’s first implementation of the under-display fingerprint sensor was plagued with issues back in February 2019. The sensor would only work with a select few screen protectors and would even work with non registered fingerprints. The company had to release a fix within a few days of launch.

Hopefully, the situation will not repeat itself with the new fingerprint sensor. However, if implemented properly, it would significantly improve everyday usability.
