Microsoft, Sony, And Nintendo Team Up to Protect Gamers Online

Console giants Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are joining forces to improve player protection on all platforms. This was confirmed through a news post released by Microsoft yesterday.

The three companies will not be teaming up to work on a console or a video game project, but something that affects all players, which is security. Microsoft confirmed that it shared a vision with Nintendo and Sony to ensure player protection is prioritized at all times.

Corporate Vice President at Xbox Operations, Dave McCarthy said:

At Xbox, we are aligned with both Nintendo, on behalf of the community of Nintendo Switch players, and PlayStation in our belief that protecting players online requires a multidisciplinary approach–one that combines the benefits of advanced technology, a supportive community, and skilled human oversight. We can accomplish more when we work toward the same goal.

He also said that the companies will have shared principles to ensure the safety of gamers. These principles will revolve around a trio of core ideas including “Prevention”, “Partnership”, and “Responsibility”.

Prevention involves providing people with the tools to keep them safe. The partnership will ensure safety by partnering with the right authorities to improve security and protection. Finally, Responsibility will make sure that it is easy for players to report violations in codes of use since there is a lot of reporting players can do themselves.

Additionally, the three companies will also be working with law enforcement if there is a threat of imminent harm to the gaming community on any of the platforms.
