PMC Introduces New Policy for Unrecognized Alternative to Post Graduate Programs

The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) announced new terms and conditions for the ‘Unrecognized Alternative to Post -Graduate’ programs that are also called the ‘Additional to Post-Graduate Programs (MDMS)’ on Tuesday.

An official notification by the PMC revealed that the ‘Clinical Alternative to Post Graduate Programs’ and the ‘Clinical Additional to Post-Graduate Programs’ had been initiated by universities across Pakistan without its inspection or recognition.

The notification read: “Some of the programs have been inspected and recognized by universities as university programs”.

The PMC stated that once the criteria for teaching hospitals is drafted by the Medical and Dental Academic Board and gets its approval, it will conduct an inspection of all such clinical programs and teaching hospitals where such clinical training is carried out.

“Until such time as these programs and teaching hospitals are inspected and recognized by the Pakistan Medical Commission, the universities may provisionally continue with such programs as ‘university-recognized programs’ subject to [PMC’s] terms,” the notification said.
