PIA Extends Deadline For Voluntary Separation Scheme Yet Again

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has extended the deadline for Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) applications by another day.

With the previous deadline expiring on December 30, the PIA management has extended it by another day, giving more time to its employees seeking to avail of the opportunity.

A notification from the human resources department said that the employees can now submit their applications for the VSS scheme by December 31 (today).

Earlier, the national flag carrier had announced December 22 as the last date for receiving applications. However, the deadline had been pushed by another week due to poor response from the employees.

As per details, a little more than 1,300 employees had submitted applications by the deadline, and more were awaited. But, PIA had expected to retire 3,000 of its employees through the early retirement package. Since the number was not up to expectations, the deadline was increased by seven days.

Similar scenes were witnessed on the 29th of December and the deadline was extended again by 24 hours owing to the same reasons.

The federal government has already released Rs. 12 billion funds for the ongoing separation scheme, aimed at cutting down the number of employees from 7,500 to 3,000 to reduce the cost and revive the airline.

At the end of the VSS scheme, PIA will introduce a Mandatory Separation Scheme (MSS) to lay off the access employees.
