Here’s How Many Employees Are Leaving PIA Using the VSS Scheme

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) officially finished receiving applications for the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) on 31st December 2020.

A spokesperson for the national carrier informed that the authority received around 2,000 applications through the scheme. The board is currently processing the final circulation of release letters to applicants, with 1,000 release letters already issued. The national carrier appreciated all the help it received from the government and associate stakeholders.

The PIA spokesperson said,

The response was very encouraging and we reduced nearly 20 per cent of our regular workforce.

Most departments under the national carrier’s wing underwent reshuffles, including airport services, flight services, and commercial ops.

A report quoted a source who said that reducing the workforce through the VSS platform while offering attractive parting packages would prove instrumental for future business execution plans. Furthermore, according to projections, the national carrier will recover from the release packages in 2 years, said the source.

In preceding operational and commercial execution rollouts, PIA expects to incorporate Rs. 2.5 billion collected through the VSS application, with cutbacks on future payouts to a reduced workforce.
