PMD Expects First Rain And Snowfall of 2021 This Sunday

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the first rainfall and snowfall of 2021 will begin from Sunday evening and will continue to Tuesday.

A strong westerly wave is expected to enter Pakistan on Sunday that will intensify the cold wave in the upper parts of the country on Monday.

Rain with snow is expected from Sunday evening through Tuesday in Kashmir, Islamabad, Potohar, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Peshawar, Mianwali, Khushab, Jhang, Sahiwal, Okara, Faisalabad, and Sargodha.

The Met Office has forewarned that heavy rain and snow may cause landslides in Kashmir.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said that below normal rainfall and below normal average surface temperature is expected in most parts of the country in January.

He added that only a couple of spells of rain are likely in the central and upper parts of Pakistan during January.
