A parliamentary panel was informed that 76,968 Pakistanis workers returned to Pakistan since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
The 12th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP&HRD) was held under the chairmanship of Sheikh Fayyaz ud Din.
The Secretary assured the Committee that there is ‘NO BAN’ on the export of Pakistani workforce to United Arab Emirates (UAE) as officially announced by Nasser Bin Thani Al Hamli, Minister of Human Resources & Emiratisation of UAE.

The Committee was informed that of those Pakistani overseas workers that are registered on the portal of Overseas Employment Corporation, 76,968 Pakistanis workers returned to Pakistan since the pandemic hit. Out of these, 29,419 workers have returned from the UAE, while 34,731 have come back from Saudi Arabia.
The Committee was informed that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Overseas Pakistanis Foundation and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development for technical assistance for the establishment of Pak-German Facilitation and Reintegration Centre to support the returning Pakistani workers.
While discussing the agenda regarding the performance of Community Welfare Attachés (CWA’s) in Saudi Arabia and Gulf Countries, the Secretary showed satisfaction over their performance. However, the performance evaluation policy regarding CWA’s is being finalized within a week.
