Punjab Govt Finalizes Coronavirus Vaccination Plan

The Punjab government has finalized a comprehensive plan for the administration of the Coronavirus vaccine during a mass vaccination campaign in the province.

In this regard, a Provincial Vaccine Administration and Coordination Cell (PVACC) has been set up which will be led by Secretary of Health.

District Vaccine Administration and Coordination Cells (DVACC) have also been established in all districts which will be led by Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs).

The provincial government has established Health Vaccine Administration Cells (HVAC) all over the province where more than 300,000 frontline healthcare workers and elderly individuals will be administered the Coronavirus vaccine in the first phase of the vaccination campaign.

In order to counter unwanted reactions from the Coronavirus vaccine, the Punjab government has devised an Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) strategy as well.

Moreover, the Punjab government has already trained 637 master trainers across 189 public hospitals in the province. Now, the master trainers are providing cascade training on vaccine administration to healthcare workers all over the province.

The provincial government has also completed the cold chain assessment and would develop the supply chain management mechanism after receiving the go-ahead from the federal government.

Earlier, SAPM on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, said that Pakistan will receive the first consignment of the COVID-19 vaccine procured directly from the manufacturers as well as through the COVAX facility in the first quarter of this year.

Dr. Faisal noted that the Health Ministry is also overseeing the arrangements made by all provinces ranging from infrastructure to framework and from training to capacity in order to initiate mass vaccination campaigns this quarter as well.
