Another Huawei Mate 40 Variant With A Higher-Res Camera Coming Soon

The Huawei Mate 40 series debuted at the end of last year including the Mate 40, the Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+, and the Mate 40 RS. According to rumors, there are still more Mate 40 variants coming soon and one of them is expected to be called the Mate 40E.

The news comes from notable tipster Digital Chat Station who revealed that the “low profile” Mate 40E was originally going to debut with the 50MP Sony IMX 700 sensor. However, due to a shortage of components, it will feature a 64MP sensor instead.

This 64MP sensor will be none other than the Omnivision OV64A sensor sized at 1/1.34-inches. It has a single pixel size of 1um but has support for four-in-one pixel-binning to increase it up to 2um. It has support for four in one HDR, tone mapping function, and on-chip combination for stable high-quality image output.

The Huawei Mate 40E recently got certified and it revealed a few of its specifications. Instead of the Kirin 9000 chip, it will be powered by Huawei’s previous flagship SoC, the Kirin 990 5G, seen on the Huawei Mate 30 series.
