Truck Art Continues to be Pakistan’s Best Cultural Export

The unique truck art of Pakistan is gaining popularity across the globe with its communicative themes blended with native motifs. It has appealed to painters and art lovers worldwide and has become a representation of the rich culture of the country.

Intricate floral patterns and profound poetic calligraphy is incorporated with the images of Sufi saints and spiritual figures to elevate truck art.

Similarly, the flying horse and the falcon are painted with known political figures, national heroes, and famous cricketers on trucks, lorries, and rickshaws to give a synchronized vibrant look.

The imagination of painters displayed through truck art is also being recognized and promoted by the government of Pakistan, as they organize truck art exhibitions abroad.

An official of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Habib ur Rehman, revealed that they have incorporated ‘truck art’ with its rare combinations of murals and colorful portraits in their Girls’ Right to Education Programme (GREP), to raise awareness on girls’ education in Pakistan.

More than 20 trucks transporting goods were painted with messages like ‘Education is power and father, don’t bring me silver or gold, bring me a book and a pen”, he added.

In addition, AK Jameel said that truck art is becoming one of Pakistan’s best known cultural exports in recent years.
