AIOU Launches Virtual Teachers Training Academy Portal

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has established a Virtual Teachers Training Academy Portal at the Lahore Regional Centre for teachers across Pakistan.

The portal has been developed in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the non-profit corporation ALIGHT, Pakistan.

The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of AIOU, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, addressed the inaugural ceremony of the portal on Tuesday and said that the initiative would help to eradicate the physical barriers obstructing the professional growth of teachers.

The chief guest at the ceremony, Punjab’s Minister for Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education, Raja Rashid Hafeez, said that he is hopeful that the portal will benefit teachers in remote areas by equipping them with advanced didactic skills and innovative content knowledge.

He also appreciated the efforts of the AIOU in promoting education and digitizing the system.

The VC described the portal as a “learning management system which includes content, quality videos, learning activities, assessment and feedback policy to achieve standard training performances of the teachers living across the country, especially the far-flung areas”.

He announced that AIOU will be completely digitized by July to allow teachers in remote areas with either no or poor internet connection to avail the offline facility.

The Secretary Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education Department Punjab, Waqas Ali Mahmood, the Dean of the Faculty of Education AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Senior Education Advisor JICA-AQAL II, Abid Gill, Dr. Shafqat Ali of the National Commission for Human Development, the Deputy Chief of Party of ALIGHT Pakistan, Kamran Iftikhar Lone, Director Coordination and Follow-up AIOU, Raja Umer Younis, and Dr. Zahid Majeed attended the inaugural ceremony.
