The notice mentioned that non-provision of parking space for customers’ vehicles is a cognizable offense under Sections 103 and 105 of the Police Act 2017 and Sections 283 and 290 of the Penal Code. The owners of the plazas have been warned that they will face serious legal action if they do not comply with the directive.

As per a statement, the Chief Traffic Officer chaired a meeting to discuss the traffic plan in detail. The attendees of the meeting pointed out that the lack of proper parking facilities has always resulted in congestions on the main arteries including University Road, GT Road, and the inner parts of the city.

It was noted that basements of commercial plazas are intended to be parking lots but have been converted into godowns or spaces for other commercial activities. The IG Traffic Police has ordered the Superintendent of the Police Headquarters and other officials to issue notices about the matter to the owners of commercial plazas immediately.

Prior to this development, the District Administration of Peshawar had also issued notices to the owners of the commercial plazas on University Road to use their basements as car park facilities, but no action had been taken against the violators.
