Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has requested all higher education institutions to postpone the implementation of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Undergraduate Policy 2020.
In the 40th meeting of its governing council, PEC decided to uphold the body’s prevailing policies and standards.

In this regard, PEC has written a letter to all universities saying that it has adopted an international standard under the guidelines of the Washington Accord, whereas, the HEC’s new policy covers general education only.
Under the Washington Accord guidelines, PEC had already implemented the OBE System in which 4-year integrated programs cover all requirements of general education aside from the foundation, breadth, and depth of the programs including internships and FYDP.

Meanwhile, HEC has reportedly decided to hold a meeting with PEC to resolve issues for engineering programs in the policy with mutual consensus.
Previously, HEC had stated Undergraduate Policy 2020 aimed at protecting the right of students to acquire quality education and raise the value of higher education degrees both nationally and internationally.
