Top PCB Official Resigns Over PSL Postponement

PCB’s Medical and Sports Sciences head, Dr. Sohail Saleem, has tendered his resignation from his post due to the postponement of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He submitted his resignation to the PCB Chairman, Ehsan Mani. According to sources, Mani, and PCB CEO, Wasim Khan, will decide on accepting his resignation. It is reported that his resignation will be accepted as PCB’s top brass has lost confidence in Saleem.

Saleem has faced a backlash from the cricketing fraternity for not fulfilling his role adequately, which led to multiple breaches in the bio-secure bubble and ultimately led to the postponement of the competition. According to reports, PCB management has held Saleem responsible for the poor management of the bio-secure bubble.

After the postponement of PSL 6, various reports have emerged of several incidents of bio-secure bubble breach and the authorities’ failure to take necessary action against the breaches. It is also reported that the behavior of the management was casual, and they were negligent towards the COVID-19 protocols.

PCB has already decided to outsource the management of the bio-secure bubble once PSL 6 resumes. The decision to outsource the management was taken during a meeting between the PCB’s top management just a couple of days after the postponement of the tournament.

Dr. Sohail Saleem was tasked with the management of the bio-secure bubble during Pakistan’s domestic season and the PSL. Although the domestic season went ahead smoothly, the management of PSL franchises, which include foreign players and officials, was troubled from the very start.
