Ehsaas Kafaalat Program to Financially Assist 7 Million Women

The PTI-led federal government has decided to lift over 7 million underprivileged women out of poverty through financial assistance under the ‘Ehsaas Kafalat Program.’

Addressing a webinar hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on International Women’s Day, SAPM on Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Sania Nishtar, said that the move will help 7 million poorest women in the country to utilize their abilities and become a productive citizen.

Dr. Sania Nishtar added that the government intends to complete the registration of 7 million women under the Ehsaas Kafalat Program by the end of June 2021. Once registered, the 7 million women will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 2,000 regardless of their religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

The SAPM briefed the webinar that there are several programs under the flagship Ehsaas Kafalat Program and most of them have been designed specifically to benefit women.

Ehsaas Kafaalat, Ehsaas Waseela-e-Taleem Digital, Ehsaas Nashonuma, Ehsaas Interest-Free Loan, Ehsaas Amdan, and Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship are some of the initiatives under the larger Ehsaas Kafalat Program that have benefitted underprivileged women from all backgrounds.

She said that the government has always prioritized the socio-economic development of women which is why the minimum share of women in all initiatives under the Ehsaas Kafalat Program has been fixed at 50%.
