Gilgit-Baltistan Declared Pakistan’s First Coronavirus Free Zone

The Health Department has declared Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) ‘Pakistan’s first coronavirus free zone’.

Dr. Shah Zaman, the focal person for the region, said that there are no more active cases in its ten districts, adding that the last three COVID-19 patients were discharged after full recoveries.

“Despite limited resources, the virus has been controlled,” he said.

Dr. Zaman added that the government intends to continue this trend by ensuring that the COVID-19 SOPs are followed and that the vaccine is duly administered to the front-line healthcare workers and senior citizens.

Note that the results of the coronavirus tests conducted in the region today (Thursday) will be issued at night.

The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) confirmed that GB has reported zero new cases out of 17,628 active coronavirus cases in Pakistan.

According to the data shared by the NCOC, 2,258 new coronavirus cases have been reported within the last twenty-four hours across Pakistan, taking the country’s COVID-19 tally to 597,497.
