Sindh has granted Government College Hyderabad the status of a university on Friday.
According to a notification issued by the Government of Sindh Universities and Boards Department, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has granted the status of the university to the college and has appointed Dr. Tayyaba Zarif as its Vice-Chancellor for a period of four years on regular terms and conditions.

Dr. Zarif had previously served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nawabshah University, and currently holds the position of Dean. She did her MA in Education from Karachi University in 1998, and later did an M.Phil. and a Ph.D.

Meanwhile, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar, revealed that the bill seeking the development of a federal university in Hyderabad has been tabled in the National Assembly.
