HEC Announces Interim Job Opportunity for Fresh Doctoral Graduates

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced the second phase (Batch-II) of the Interim Placement of Fresh PhDs (IPFP) Program.

The initiative allows all fresh doctoral graduates from Pakistan to be recruited as Assistant Professors on a ‘tenure track system’ for one year.

The HEC is accepting applications for the academic year 2021-22 as ‘IPFP Fellows’ in all study areas.

The Deputy Director of the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), Mehwish Jabbar, told the media that such interim opportunities are necessary amid the growing numbers of doctoral graduates.

She said that the final deadline for the submission of the application is 31 March 2021, and added that the interested candidates must fill out the form available online at http://eportal.hec.gov.pk/ipfp with the required information and documents.

She added,

The aim to launch the IPFP program is to create an opportunity for fresh PhDs to obtain academic experience and mentorship for one year in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), federal/provincial government post-graduate colleges, or public sector Research and Development organizations prior to their formal entry into the academic job market.

As per sources, the selected candidates will carry the title of ‘IPFP Fellow’ throughout their Fellowships (NFDP and subsequent placements).

The fellowship will be considered a professional experience and will be equivalent to a postdoctoral fellowship.

Eligible candidates will get an opportunity to attend free online one month National Faculty Development Program (NFDP) with a team of highly reputed international and national trainers.

After the completion of the NFDP, applicants will be given capacity-building opportunities through online activities during their fellowships. The HEC will facilitate their placements at the HEIs for one year as IPFP Fellows by sharing the credentials of the successful candidates.

According to the HEC, each IPFP Fellow at the host University for Guidance will be assigned a faculty mentor for major career-related issues, the setting of academic targets, and the supervision of their work to ensure high levels of research productivity.

The candidates will receive a fixed salary of Rs. 100,000 per month for a period of 12 months from their date of joining.
