Peshawar to Get a State-of-the-Art Food Analysis Lab

The Director-General (DG) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Food Safety & Halal Food Authority (FS&HFA), Shah Rukh Ali Khan, revealed that the authority will set up a contemporary food analysis laboratory in Peshawar for which PC-1 worth Rs. 141.69 million has been prepared.

DG KP Food Authority spoke at a media briefing in which he said that besides the static lab, two mobile labs will be established as well at a cost of Rs. 52 million at the divisional level for the purpose of testing the quality of food, adding that the lab will help in the eradication of food contamination and provision of safe and healthy food to the public.

DG Shah Rukh informed that the required staff has been deputed and the necessary equipment has been provided to the Food Analysis Laboratory, Hayatabad.

He explained that earlier the authority was working in seven districts of KP to ensure the provision of quality food, but now they have expanded their services to 15 more districts.

He emphasized the need to train the food handlers for which the food authority will set up a training school in Peshawar, and in the next phase, it will be established in several districts across the province.

In addition, he apprised that the authority will also set up a central medical screening laboratory in Peshawar to curb the spread of communicable diseases through food outlets, adding that later several such labs would be established at the divisional level.
