SHC Issues Notices to PMC For 60% Marks Required For BDS Admission Test

Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) on Monday over petitions seeking to challenge the PMC’s eligibility criterion of 60 percent in the written Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) admission test.

The petitioners’ counsel, Haider Waheed, claimed that the PMC had started its admission process but had disallowed candidates with less than 60 percent marks in the Intermediate examinations from taking the BDS entrance test, which is unfair.

He added that 515 out of 690 BDS seats in Sindh are vacant.

Upon inquiry, the court was apprised that the petitions have been filed by students, medical colleges, and a non-governmental organization.

The SHC has issued a stay order on the restriction placed by the PMC and has sought its reply by the next hearing which is scheduled for 22 March.

In other news, the SHC has rejected an appeal filed by a former officer of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), namely Mumtaz Nizami, and other offenders against their sentence in a sales tax refund scam case.
