The Punjab government has decided to shift all public sector electricity connections to solar energy in the next few years.
A high-ranking official has disclosed that 10,500 public schools and colleges in Punjab have already been shifted to solar energy and all basic health units are now being shifted to solar energy while all public sector universities will be shifted to solar energy afterward.
The Punjab government is expected to save Rs. 36 billion in federal payments on an annual basis through the abovementioned initiatives.
Besides, solar power plants of 100 MW are being set up in Layyah district by Zhenfa Pakistan New Energy Company.
The Punjab government’s move is in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision to promote clean and green energy across the country.
Under the Alternative Renewable Energy (ARE) Policy 2019, the federal government has already fixed a target to increase the renewable energy capacity by 20% before 2025 and by 30% before 2030.
Overall, the share of renewable energy in the national energy spectrum will be taken to 60% by the end of 2030 under the ARE Policy 2019.
