OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro Launched With Hasselblad Cameras, Top of The Line Specs

OnePlus 9 has become official as the latest flagship series from the company, which once again undercuts flagship prices but with all the premium features you could ask for. One of its highlights is its new $150 million partnership with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad to help improve camera quality.

Let’s have a look.

Design and Display

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are sized at 6.55″ and 6.7″ inches diagonally with 120Hz AMOLED panels, 10-bit colors, and HDR10+. Only the Pro model goes up to 1440p resolution, while the base model is limited to 1080p. Both have support for an adaptive refresh rate and reliable under-display fingerprint sensors.

The OnePlus 9 Pro has an aluminum frame and the base model has plastic sides. Only the Pro model has a slight curve on the display.

Internals and Storage

Both phones are graced with the flagship Snapdragon 888 chip with support for LPDDR5 RAM on all models and UFS 3.1. You can get up to 8 to 12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB internal storage, but there is no memory card slot for storage expansion.

The OnePlus 9 duo boots the latest version of Oxygen OS 11 based on Android 11 with promised updates for years.

The headlining Hasselblad camera setup on the two phones comes with a large Sony IMX789 48MP main lens alongside 50MP IMX766 ultrawide sensors. Only the Pro sibling gets a telephoto camera as its third lens, while the vanilla OnePlus 9 has a 2MP depth sensor.

The ultrawide unit is one of the best in class with its 50MP resolution free form lens that decreases distortion even further. This is something we also saw on the Huawei Mate 40 series.

These setups are loaded with the latest camera technologies and can capture 12-bit RAW images as well as 8K videos at 30 FPS. 4K video clips can even go up to 120FPS.

Both models use the same 16MP selfie camera.

Battery and Pricing

Battery specifications are virtually identical on the two phones. Both have 4,500 mAh cells with 65W super-fast wired charging, but only the Pro sibling gets fast wireless charging.

The OnePlus 9 will be available for a starting price of $730, but the OnePlus 9 Pro will cost $970 for the base configuration.
