Rashid Latif Lashes Out at South Africa’s Ignorance of Pakistan Cricket’s Sacrifices

The former Pakistan cricketer turned analyst, Rashid Latif, has slammed Cricket South Africa (CSA) for allowing its players to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL), skipping the scheduled bilateral series against Pakistan.

His criticism came after CSA released five of its core players from its T20I squad against the Green Shirts for IPL. The released players include Kagiso Rabada (Dehli Capitals), Quinton de Kock (Mumbai Indians), Lungi Ngidi (Chennai Super Kings), David Miller (Rajasthan Royals), and Anrich Nortje (Dehli Capitals).

Apparently, a contract between the South African Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) binds CSA to do so.

While speaking on PTV Sports, Latif said:

Their [CSA] calculation is good because ODI matches will count in the qualification for the 2023 World Cup. However, Rabada, Miller, De Kock, Ngidi, and Nortje will be gone for IPL during T20Is. If Pakistan had left out their five main players, would South Africa have still played with us? Then why are we playing with them?

He suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board should not play this series.

When both boards decided on this series, they would have decided on playing their full-strength sides. You are fooling the broadcasters by playing weakened sides?

Questions are being raised from within over South Africa’s decision to prefer IPL over a bilateral series. Veteran South African pacer, Dale Steyn, was one of the voices that spoke up on the matter.

“I missed the reason why our big dogs aren’t playing the T20s against Pak?” Steyn inquired on Twitter.
